Zürich is perhaps my favourite city in the world. Switzerland is definitely my favourite country in the world. The beauty of this entire country is astonishing, and Zürich is no exception. It combines many beautiful architectural styles, from Romanesque to neoclassical, sprawled across both sides of stunning Lake Zürich, and nestled quietly beneath the Swiss Alps – I mean, what a backdrop!
In stark contrast to my previous post, all of Switzerland is incredibly clean. We first arrived in Zürich the night of a large electronic dance rave that overtook the city (by pure mistake … that isn’t exactly our scene!), and the city was trashed. The next morning, to our utter shock and disbelief, every overflowing rubbish bin, and scattered junk – GONE! It was like a cleaning SWAT team showed up and gave the whole city a bath. No clue how it happened, but I kid you not – it was spotless. That’s Switzerland. Covert cleaners, gorgeous scenery, and, let’s not forget, the unbelievable FOOD!
The chocolate is incredible (obviously – it’s the birthplace of Lindt!), but my heart was also drawn to the cheese! I ate … a lot of cheese there. A lot. Fondue and raclette every night. No exaggeration. I also became mildly obsessed with the ice cream there. The whole country is expensive, but my god, it’s worth every penny.
