London

By Kiersten Eats

Ahh, London. I adore London. It was the first place I ever landed and felt, within minutes, I could happily live there. It feels like a delightful combination of Brisbane (my home city), and New York City (my first love). Parts of London just feel like your standard, run-of-the-mill big city, but there’s so much beauty, and it’s filled with England’s signature ridiculously-courteous-and-kind people! Sure, it’s a big city, so there are bound to be some jerks in there (statistics would dictate …), but I swear the UK has a larger quantity of polite, respectful humans.

English food never gets enough credit, in my opinion, and has a lot to offer this world. Plus, like any sizeable city, they have embraced the full world of cuisines, and therefore have the entirety of the planet’s options to offer. Endless options!

My favourite bakery I’ve ever encountered is in London, and I have also enjoyed some of the most incredible coffee, meat pies, patisserie, puddings, and, of course, tea, over my many visits to London.

Popham’s Bakery. Great coffee, delicious pastries (pictured are the nectarine, custard and pistachio Danish, and the maple bacon swirl). Special shout-out to the spectacular ham and cheese croissant!
Maitre Choux has the most incredible éclairs and cream puffs. Pictured are their Tahitian vanilla and pecan éclair, caramelised hazelnut éclair, and their light-as-air, coarse sugar-coated Chouquettes.
Afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason. Treat yourself to this fabulous multi-course, bottomless afternoon tea. It’s amazing – as is the gorgeous store the restaurant is situated within.
Pimm’s Cup at The Ritz, because why not go out with a bang on your last night of vacation!
If you don’t have this photo of yourself with a phone booth, did you even go to London?
The view from the London Eye. Spoiler alert: this was terrifying and I was so scared the whole time! Couldn’t tell you why – I typically love ferris wheels!
Pretty Notting Hill makes for fabulous shopping at little shops and markets.
Adorable tiny Twinings shop, nestled between much larger buildings on The Strand. A must-visit spot for tea lovers!
You must visit a Marks & Spencer food hall while in London. I strolled and gazed upon the glorious selection for literally hours!
… almost as glorious as the Harrods food hall! I could die happy after eating my way through this baked goods-laden heaven!!
… and almost as mind-blowing as Fortnum & Mason’s cheese hall!
