Despite the outrageous summer heat in D.C., I love that city! It’s full of beauty, history, and great museums. It’s also full of fantastic food! I have tried some wonderful things in D.C. I’ve never seen before, and some of the deliciousness experienced there continues to haunt me to this day! I can’t wait to go back.
Wander the National Mall, visit as many Smithsonian museums as possible (they’re all free!), and take a day trip out to Georgetown – it’s so pretty, and that’s where you’ll find a bunch of cute little shops – plus a ton of bakeries, restaurants and plenty of places to grab a drink! The Navy Yard area is also a great spot with a ton of restaurants and local breweries.
The White House. Unfortunately they no longer allow tours, but you can still check out the beautiful building and landscape from the outside. Old Ebbitt Grill on 15th Street has the most incredible brunches! Pictured is the best mimosa I’ve ever had, and an incredible watermelon margarita – which (if memory serves me correctly) I pretty much stole from my husband and he had to order another! The cheese board and pairings at Old Ebbitt Grill. We also had pate, and peach crisp French toast. All were incredible!I was drawn to Hen Quarter as I was walking by, because the smell was intoxicating! Let me tell you, crispy fried chicken skin, with hot chili honey dipping sauce = mind-blowing and life-changing! We also had chicken and waffles, their house-made biscuits, with house-made butter and fig fam, and cocktails. Such a great brunching experience! The Navy Yard area has so many amazing spots to eat – including Bluetable, where we enjoyed a flight of their own beer, and this delightful pickle board! If it’s pickled, I’m in!Pretty Georgetown, just outside of D.C. The bus or train will take you there in no time! The Eisenhower Executive Office Building in D.C. One of my favourite buildings in D.C.!
