Being the land of deep dish pizza, I always knew I’d like Chicago! And boy, was I right! I love Chicago – and not just for their fun, thicccck pizza! It’ a pretty city, and there’s tons to do and see while there … but, more importantly, there are so many phenomenal places to eat and drink. It’s the home of Goose Island, a brewery I’ve loved for many years – and they give a great brewery tour. There are several incredible bakeries and even some dedicated cookie bakeries. I stumbled across an incredible spice store, with an impressive and dizzying array of herbs and spices available in various sizes (which I now return to every time I’m there!).
And, of course, the deep dish pizza. Don’t go in thinking it’s pizza; it’s a different animal. You MUST try the one I most enjoyed, though. Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria was recommended to us by locals, so I knew it was going to be good … but Oh. My. God. That thing still haunts my dreams. I’m pretty sure I reeked of garlic for a week afterwards, but who cares! Worth every moment of offense my stink caused, and worth every single calorie, FOR SURE.

Incredible sauce, cheese, toppings, and that crust – soooo buttery!!). I know it looks a hot mess, but it’s mostly because deep dish pizzas put their sauce on top, so the base doesn’t get soggy. Goose Island’s brewery tour is fantastic, but if you’re short on time, you can still sit for a beer (or a flight) and peruse their gift shop, too.My favourite Chicago bakery, La Fournette. They make bread, pastries, French macarons, jams, and other delightful French baked goods. Pictured here is their blueberry Danish, their chocolate hazelnut beignet (which is INCREDIBLE and I had to go back for a second!!), and fresh-squeezed orange juice. My perfect breakfast right there!Delicious cheese board with sourdough, pickled cauliflower and fig jam, from Centennial Crafted Beer & Eatery. Their beer selection is also fabulous. Cloud Gate, aka The Bean. It’s a fun sculpture, and arguably the most famous part of Chicago’s Millennium Park. It’s a lot of fun to walk around and enjoy the reflections one sees in the bean – including the underside!
